Frequently Asked Questions

Which format should I convert to?

For web use, WebP offers the best balance of quality and file size with 25-35% smaller files than JPG. Use PNG when you need transparency or pixel-perfect graphics. JPG is ideal for photos when maximum compatibility is needed. AVIF offers even better compression but has limited browser support.

What happens to transparent backgrounds?

PNG and WebP preserve transparency. When converting to JPG (which doesn't support transparency), transparent areas are replaced with white. We recommend converting images with transparency to WebP for optimal file size.

How does quality level affect file size?

For JPG and WebP, quality settings control the compression ratio. 100% quality produces larger files with minimal compression artifacts. 80% quality is typically indistinguishable from the original at 50-70% of the file size. Going below 60% may show visible compression artifacts.

Can I convert animated GIFs?

Currently, animated GIFs are converted to static images (the first frame). For animated content, we recommend keeping the GIF format or using video formats like WebM.

Is there a file size limit?

Individual images can be up to 50MB. You can batch convert up to 50 images at once. Processing happens in your browser, so very large images may be slower on less powerful devices.

Format Selection Guide

WebP is recommended for most web use cases - it provides excellent compression with transparency support. PNG is best when you need lossless quality or are working with graphics and text. JPG remains the standard for photos when maximum compatibility is required. AVIF offers the best compression but requires modern browser support.
